 [12:35:48] <jeffles>  mines about a page
[12:35:56] <jeffles>  we were talking about our reports for this course
 [12:36:00] <karenreid>  :-)

 [12:37:26] <jeffles>  alright
 [12:37:34] <jeffles>  I shall also do this
[12:37:55] <karenreid>  So is everyone done work/PEY? (I keep forgetting)
[12:38:04] <klejao>  This is my last week
 [12:38:05] <mikeing2001>  i have 2.5 days let
 [12:38:07] <darynl>  nope, I finish next friday
 [12:38:07] <mikeing2001>  *left
 [12:38:13] <jeffles>  yep
[12:38:42] <karenreid>  Then we should get down to business so that working people can get back to their day jobs. :-)
 [12:39:06] <mikeing2001>  no worries
 [12:39:14] <mikeing2001>  i'm not busy
 [12:39:17] <darynl>  haha same
[12:39:24] <karenreid>  The way post mortems usually work is that I would like everyone to think of a few things that you thought went well with how things worked this summer, and a few things that we could improve on.
[12:39:28] <darynl>  piling all the work on the newbie
[12:40:26] <karenreid>  I certainly use the information from the post mortems to try to improve on things the next time, and it is always useful to reflect on how things went.
[12:40:40] <darynl>  I guess we can start with things that went well
 [12:40:55] <karenreid>  Sure :-) I can start too.
 [12:41:08] <darynl>  CODE SPRINT!
[12:41:24] <jeffles>  yeah it was pretty fun
 [12:41:32] <jeffles>  and surprisingly productive
[12:41:35] <mikeing2001>  and we closed quite a few things that day
[12:41:37] <karenreid>  I was very reluctant to supervise students this summer, and I have to admit that I was worried, but all of you really exceeded my expectations.
[12:41:54] <karenreid>  darynl: I agree. I really enjoyed it and thought it was productive.
[12:41:55] <darynl>  since we didn't have "lectures" for this course, it was nice to see everyone get together including the coordinator
 [12:42:11] <darynl>  and the mentors (tobi/danesh)
[12:42:12] <karenreid>  I do feel badly that I don't know you as well as I might otherwise.
[12:42:33] <karenreid>  Next time, I think I would try to fit in a Saturday sprint earlier in the term.
[12:42:43] <darynl>  that would be good
[12:42:46] <jeffles>  Yeah I was going to say, an extra code sprint or two wouldn't hurt
 [12:42:49] <karenreid>  Other positive things?
 [12:42:55] <darynl>  weekly meetings
[12:42:57] <klejao>  jeffles I was about to say that
[12:43:00] <jeffles>  one in the beginning with the mentors would be really good
[12:43:02] <darynl>  haha, easy one of course
[12:43:07] <jeffles>  get people oriented faster
[12:43:30] <darynl>  jeffles: that's not a positive one but more of a suggestion, but i agree
[12:43:48] <karenreid>  jeffles: that's why we do the UCOSP sprint early in the term. I agree.
[12:44:17] <karenreid>  I haven't done sprints before when working just with U of T students, but it is a great idea.
[12:44:40] <jeffles>  sort of makes the project feel more 'real' if you know what I mean haha
[12:44:57] <darynl>  yeah, there should definitely be a crash course on the application right off the bat
[12:45:13] <karenreid>  What's the hardest thing about getting started?
[12:45:15] <darynl>  so the new students know how it works and can test it more effeciently
 [12:45:27] <darynl>  I didn't know how everything worked
[12:45:42] <mikeing2001>  i think that is related to a lack of documentatoin
[12:45:45] <klejao>  karenreid - setting the development environment
[12:45:54] <darynl>  tbh, still don't know how everything works. Only stuff I've worked on XD
[12:45:54] <jeffles>  I think gaining the confidence to say things and actually get involved is a big hurdle for people new to OS development
[12:46:31] <darynl>  klejao: for windows XD
[12:46:46] <klejao>  I think the documentation had instructions for newer Macs ( The instructions for older Macs was overwritten I think)
