[12:07:00] <karenreid>  Let's wait a couple of minutes to see if the others show up.
[12:07:27] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: I'm very happy you are interested in the release management role.
[12:08:01] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: NelleV can probably help us figure out exactly what that means, and what the next steps in that direction are.
 [12:08:11] <mikeing2001>  sounds good
[12:09:31] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: do you want to do it as a 495 course in the fall?
[12:10:00] <mikeing2001>  preferably yes. It would fit my schedule better

 [12:13:38] <jeffles>  hi
 [12:13:57] <jeffles>  alarm didn't go off.
[12:13:58] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: I don't know how much experience you have with release management kind of work, but I'd like you to do a bit of background reading and write a blog post with the steps involved, and what the plan for MarkUs is.
 [12:14:12] <mikeing2001>  sure, will do
[12:14:52] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: you don't have to do it now, but that will be your first(isn) task for term
[12:15:22] <jeffles>  mikeing2001: which semester are you going to be RM of?
[12:15:30] <mikeing2001>  ok, i will do it after i finish my pey report
[12:15:49] <karenreid>  Okay, last full meeting of the term.
[12:16:07] <karenreid>  It's nice to see the number of issues decreasing a bit. :-)
[12:16:53] <karenreid>  Let's go around the (virtual) table.
[12:17:02] <karenreid>  darynl: do you want to comment on your status?
 [12:17:16] <darynl>  sure
[12:18:20] <darynl>  So I noted that my next steps would be to do a repull request, but I think that will be what I am going to finish first
[12:18:25] <karenreid>  darynl: why are you repelling the two issues? (I didn't get a chance to look at the pull requests)
 [12:18:31] <darynl>  98 is small
 [12:18:38] <darynl>  severin closed them
[12:18:53] <darynl>  told me to update the code first, which i did
 [12:19:03] <karenreid>  *repulling (darn autocorrect)
 [12:19:23] <karenreid>  cool
[12:19:26] <darynl>  but I think because my issue 745 fix didn't pass all test cases i have to fix it first
 [12:19:40] <darynl>  hence the road block :P
[12:19:57] <darynl>  but I can push the issue 98 request first
 [12:20:06] <darynl>  so I don't hold that one back
[12:20:19] <darynl>  I merged the code by mistake so I had them put together in a request
[12:20:35] <darynl>  I'll have to split it first
 [12:21:08] <darynl>  and thats about it :D
 [12:21:26] <karenreid>  sounds good
 [12:21:53] <karenreid>  klejao: your turn
[12:22:40] <klejao>  ok so I fixed issue 724 on sunday and Severin closed it this week.
[12:22:53] <klejao>  im still looking at remaining issues on 1.0
[12:23:13] <klejao>  checking which issues I can work on
[12:23:43] <klejao>  im also planning to write a few testcases for 724 just to prevent regression
[12:23:57] <klejao>  so I may have to reopen it and add a few testcases
[12:24:03] <mikeing2001>  klejao: do you want to tackle 475
 [12:24:09] <klejao>  let me see
[12:24:13] <mikeing2001>  there are still a few legacy functions in the code
 [12:25:11] <karenreid>  thanks klejao.
 [12:25:39] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: your turn
[12:26:12] <mikeing2001>  i been working on issue 813. However, i got stuck on a loop hole in with grace days. I email you about it
 [12:27:10] <karenreid>  oops I missed that one
 [12:27:59] <karenreid>  from mikeing2001:
[12:28:00] <karenreid>  An assignment 1 has allows students to work in a group of 1-2 people and use at most 2 grace days credits. Student A and B decide to work together. Student A has 2 grace days credits and Student B has 0 grace days credits. How late can they submit the assignment, 1 grace period or 0 grace period?
[12:28:41] <karenreid>  This should be 0, but I see the problem if we allow groups to form after collection.
[12:29:42] <karenreid>  Ideally, there would be a way to notify the admin that this problem has occurred.
 [12:30:34] <mikeing2001>  ok, that shouldn't be hard
[12:30:46]  jerboaa (jerboaa@nat/redhat/x-donbcqxiavtteqbq) left irc: Quit: Leaving
[12:30:51] <karenreid>  except that we don't really notify the instructor for other things.
[12:31:25] <karenreid>  The other easy possibility would be to disallow the group with a note saying that the student needs to talk to the instructor.
[12:31:46] <karenreid>  I'll forward it with some discussion to markus-dev or maybe write a blog post.
[12:32:26] <karenreid>  Here is the second scenario:
[12:32:28] <karenreid>  Also, using the above situation but instead Student A has only 1 grace day credit. Student B has worked with Student A on the assignment but they forgot to form a group together. Student A submits the assignment late by 1 grace day. The assignment gets collected, marked, and released. Student B finds out that they forgot to form a group and the instructor makes the group. However, now the submission that was marked and graded should be invalid
[12:32:29] <karenreid>  because they don't meet the grace day requirement as Student B does not have any grace days. What should happen here?
[12:32:42] <mikeing2001>  this is basically the same thing
[12:32:49] <karenreid>  This one seems easier, because the instructor has to make the decision of whether to ad student B to the group.
[12:33:15] <karenreid>  The instructor can decide to do it and may have to add grace days to B.
[12:33:29] <karenreid>  or can just refuse to create the group.
[12:33:56] <karenreid>  IT is the same thing in that it would be good to have an easy way to let the instructor know that B has used up grace days.
[12:34:33] <jeffles>  i was just thinking some sort of notification system would be fun to do, except i can't really think of any other uses for it.
[12:34:35] <karenreid>  mikeing2001: good catch on the logic!
[12:35:24] <mikeing2001>  darynl: klejao jeffles , we have a way to cheat the grace day system next fall :P
 [12:35:37] <darynl>  :P
[12:36:04] <jeffles>  too bad the only course that may involve markus for me is 495
 [12:36:13] <darynl>  lol
[12:36:28] <karenreid>  except if mikeing2001 get the grace day calculation fixed, then at least it will show up.
 [12:37:27] <karenreid>  jeffles: your turn
[12:38:08] <jeffles>  i submitted a request for ticket 812. i actually finished testing it more thoroughly but i should update the description.
[12:38:48] <jeffles>  i will be working on 818 next, it's small but i can't seem to figure it out.
[12:41:25] <mikeing2001>  jeffles: i will take a look at it and see if i can help you later today
[12:41:33] <jeffles>  mikeing2001: i remember you gave it a go before, it was part of the 6 errors
 [12:41:40] <jeffles>  souds good
[12:41:50] <mikeing2001>  no that the 6 errors was different
 [12:42:12] <karenreid>  Sounds goo.d
[12:42:33] <darynl>  BA after work today? lol
[12:43:04] <karenreid>  So this is our last full meeting of the term. I'd like to have a post mortem meeting where we discuss what worked well this term and what we can improve on. I'm always looking for ideas of how to make things work better for the next group.
[12:44:03] <karenreid>  What I need from each of you is a short (few paragraphs) summary of what you have accomplished this term. It would be great if you could include a few sentences about what you think you have learned this term.
[12:45:16] <klejao>  karenreid, when do you need the written summary?
[12:45:20] <karenreid>  I'd like the summaries by Friday next week. They don't have to be super polished. I'm not going to give you marks for writing style or anything like that.
[12:45:37] <klejao>  sounds good to me. thanks
[12:45:48] <karenreid>  I have to submit marks by the 22nd, so if there is a reason why you would like more time please let me know.
[12:46:03] <karenreid>  When would be a good time for the post mortem? Same time next week?
 [12:46:18] <mikeing2001>  i am busy next thursday
 [12:46:22] <mikeing2001>  wednesday?
 [12:46:57] <darynl>  wednesday sounds good
 [12:47:06] <karenreid>  I could do 12:30 on Wednesday
 [12:47:16] <mikeing2001>  i'm good what that
[12:47:51] <klejao>  wednesday sounds good to me as well
 [12:47:59] <karenreid>  okay, let's do that.
 [12:48:04] <darynl>  k
